John White's Signature Letters

From the image at right, match up with the image at left. The letter J is in Blue. The letter W is in Red. A Star was found in this artwork on the boy's sleeve (in gold). In this version, Shakespeare and his family are

in the John White House at Jamestown (Jamestown Rediscovery, Building 163). John White made the shadow/highlights different here on Shakespeare's hand than he did in the 2nd version of this artwork (below). Here the letter J is squared and ends on Shakespeare's palm. There are other JW signatures in this artwork. In this version, there shows the letter S on the dog's arm and shoulder, and possibly its name was Speare as the dog surely resembles a long spear (at right).

In this 2nd version, Shakespeare and his family are at New Place in Stratford Upon Avon, England. By following the highlight down his index finger and around his palm to the tip of his thumb appears the letter J. A shadow blacks out Shakespeare's ring finger and reveals the letter W. The tip of his ring finger reappears next to his middle finger. Also,

notice the end of the letter J on his dog is separated by a squared, dark line that separates and forms the letter. The girl's hair shows no letters as the 1st version (above) shows. The boy's sleeve does not show a Star, the letters JW are on the boy's sleeve down by his cuff. There, the J is part of the W. There are other signature letters in this artwork.
